Ricky has engaged in the IT industry since 1978 after his graduation from Imperial College of Science, Technology and Medicine, University of London, UK. Apart from extensive experience in software application development, training and project management in the IT field, Ricky has also involved in business process re-engineering (BPR) and is a trained ISO Auditor. Ricky run a software company for over 5 years and was the first sole distributor of WordPerfect in Hong Kong. He was the past chairman of the British Computer Society Hong Kong Section and Management and Methods Club, the Hong Kong Management Association.

Ricky has taken up the management role in many large corporations in Hong Kong including HAECO, Inchcape, IBM, OOCL, and Hong Kong Police.
